Diving in Tulamben

With a 120-meter shipwreck at one end, a dramatic drop-off reef at the other, and rich sand slopes and a bank reef in between, this bay can keep a diver happy for weeks.“
(Diving Bali, Periplus 2000, p. 76)

„… this single bay harbours more species than, say, the entire Hawai’ian island chain.”
(Diving Bali, Periplus 2000, p. 91)

The minivan of the „ECO Dive” station nearby our OnlYou – villa picks us up.
After a wonderful 20 minute ride along the coastline with a spectacular view on Gunung Agung (3.124 m) and Bali’s most sacred temple Besakih, we arrive at the small Tulamben village, synonymous of „SCUBA Unlimited“.
Where else in the world can one so easily and safely dive a 120-meter shipwreck (the „Liberty“, torpedoed in 1943) even at night time?

Where else is one welcomed by such a great variety of fish? Even the big ones around the shallow parts of the wreckage (from easy 12 to 38 meters depth) are tame.

Where else can one find such an abundance of hard and soft coral bushes, sponges, and giant gorgonians? Listing all these species would result in an almost comprehensive encyclopaedia of Southeast Asian marine life.
Barracuda, rudderfish, surgeonfish, clown fish and dozens of electric blue damselfish are always amongst the first cheerleaders, but with a little piece of luck you might even take a nice shot of a Manta, a hammerhead shark, or a water turtle.

The „Drop-off“ or: „The Wall“ in the wreck’s vicinity, rough and steep, reaches down from about fifteen to forty meters. There is a great ledge of gorgonians (the “crown jewel” is almost two meters across!) and, particularly, black coral bushes. Myriads of small animals cover the rocky ridgeline, and snappers and bumphead parrotfish the size of infants are no rarity.

And when ABC - snorklers return from their first sightseeing tour in Tulamben’s „Patch Reef“, a Snorkelling Paradise where most of “Nemo” ’s multicoloured friends are fooling around table corals, anemones, bushy hydroids and hard corals in just five to twenty meters of depth, they have only one desire: a SCUBA diving certification!

Why not? Be our guest!
ECO Dive and their certified (!!) diving instructors - our neighbours in Amed - are offering professional introductory and advanced SCUBA courses in fluent English, German or French.
„Greenhorns“ might start off with lessons in their private OnlYou pool, then make their first underwater friendships with zillions of fish in „our“ coral garden just a stone’s throw away from your villa's beach, and then, finally, head off to the “Real Thing”: Divers’ Paradise Tulamben.

With a 12 litre bottle on their back and an expert PADI certification in their pocket!

P.S.:
Never Dive Alone!” Everyone knows this rule.
But how about “Dive With Your Darling”?
Experts call this “Treasure Diving”.
Some of our guests call it “Honeymoon Diving” - when we spoil them in their OnlYou Villa.
